On Friday in Muttenz, the criminal court in Basel-Landschaft acquitted a 25-year-old man of the murder charge on grounds of insanity and ordered psychiatric measures. He killed his own father in Lampenberg in December 2021 in a psychotic delusion.

The 25-year-old was suffering from acute psychosis at the time of the crime, as confirmed by an expert report. In his family home, he threatened his sister and mother with a loaded gun and killed his father with two shots to the head, which the accused admitted during the trial.

He was only convicted of secondary offenses. He must pay a fine of 40 daily rates of 30 francs and a fine of 900 francs for violations of the Weapons and Narcotics Acts, which he committed while he was still guilty.
