No agreement has been reached between Apple and football's world governing body Fifa for the global TV broadcasting rights to the new Club World Cup 2025. Instead, FIFA announced that the rights will be awarded by tender for various territories.

The tender will be launched for the tournament, which will begin in less than a year, and the 2029 Club World Cup in North and South America, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. The procedure for Europe will start later, according to a FIFA press release. At stake are rights for a total of 63 matches of the new tournament from June 15 to July 13 in the USA.

The "New York Times" reported in April that an agreement was imminent, causing a stir. It is now clear that this contract will not be concluded.

No Swiss clubs

FIFA did not want to comment on the alleged deal with Apple, nor did the technology group, which already owns football rights. Apple has a worldwide ten-year contract with Major League Soccer.

Twelve of the 32 teams from Europe are taking part in the new Club World Cup format. No Swiss clubs are taking part. FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are taking part from the German Bundesliga. So far, 29 clubs have qualified, including the Champions League winners of the years 2021 to 2024. A maximum of two clubs per country are allowed to take part.
