There are no indications that the boy, who had been missing since April, was the victim of a crime. The investigators did not reveal the cause of death in order to protect the family.

Arian disappeared more than two months ago, on April 22, from his home in the town of Bremervörde, almost 100 kilometers west of Hamburg. The police assumed that the autistic child had left the house on his own and launched a major search. At times, up to 1200 helpers were involved.

Farmer finds dead child

On Monday afternoon, a farmer found a dead child while mowing a meadow near Arian's home. The area had been searched several times by emergency services after the disappearance in April, a police spokeswoman said. The investigators assumed with high probability that the dead child was six-year-old Arian. The results of the autopsy are now certain.

Search for Arian on land, from the air and in the water

After Arian's disappearance, emergency services and volunteers combed villages, meadows and forests day and night. A nearby river was searched. Forces from the police, fire department, the German Armed Forces, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and the German Life Saving Association were involved. At times, they searched with dogs, horses, helicopters, drones, wildlife cameras, a Tornado plane, boats and diving equipment.

Around a week after the boy's disappearance, the police, in consultation with the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, decided to stop the extensive search. A team of five investigators continued to look into the case. Hundreds of tips were received, but there was no hot lead. In mid-May, the police searched for Arian again for two days, but again failed to find the child.
