BL cantonal council Basel district council approves 2023 annual accounts
The Basel-Landschaft cantonal council approved the 2023 annual accounts on Thursday by 81 votes to 1. These show a loss of 93.5 million francs. A loss of just CHF 6.4 million was originally budgeted.

"We take note of the annual report with great concern," said Ronja Jansen (SP). With the exception of one vote in her parliamentary group, however, the SP also approved the report with the negative income statement.
The reasons for the deficit include the lack of profit distribution from the Swiss National Bank and the canton's lower share of direct federal and withholding tax. In addition, there were also unexpected expenses such as provisions for the remediation of contaminated sites and the value adjustment for the Baselland cantonal hospital, as announced by the Finance Directorate in March.
