The affair surrounding stolen place name signs from the Bernese Jura continues to stir up controversy. On Tuesday, the Bernese Jura Council - a kind of regional parliament - called for the thieves to be brought to justice.

37 place name signs were stolen in the Bernese Jura in February. Last June 23, the 50th anniversary of the Jura plebiscite, they reappeared at the festival in Delsberg JU. Members of the separatist organization Bélier placed them in front of the Jura parliament. The movement stated that it had received the plaques anonymously.

The Bernjurassic Council is not satisfied with this explanation. It called on the Bernese cantonal government to ensure that the Jura cantonal government complies with the Concordat on the change of canton of Moutier and that criminal proceedings are taken against the perpetrators of the thefts.

The thefts must be investigated swiftly, it added. The Bern-Jura Council also expects cooperation from the Jura authorities.

The committee expressed concern about the slogans chanted by Béliers such as "Jura Sud, terre occupée" (South Jura, occupied land) or "Ce n'est que le début, continuons le combat" (This is just the beginning, let's continue the fight). These statements were clearly directed against the Bernese Jura.

The Bernese Jura Council was created with the Special Status Act and consists of 24 elected members. It is the official point of contact for the Bernese government.
