Donald Trump rages against Fox News: The ex-president is angry with his former home and court broadcaster because it is now publishing a poll that doesn't suit him.

  • A new poll commissioned by the conservative broadcaster Fox News puts Joe Biden two points ahead of Donald Trump.
  • The fact that the incumbent is said to have overtaken him in voter favorability is infuriating for the former president.
  • The survey also shows the voter segments in which the two presidential candidates are particularly strong.

It is a "devastating poll" that "hits" Donald Trump, writes the US publication "Newsweek", not without glee: a poll conducted by the conservative broadcaster Fox News, of all people, puts Joe Biden ahead of his likely challenger Donald Trump for the first time.

In March, Trump was five points ahead of the incumbent US president in terms of approval ratings with 50 percent. In May, the next Fox News poll showed 49% in favor of the Republican and 48% in favor of Joe Biden. And now, for the first time since October 2023, the Democrat is back in the lead with 50%, while the challenger drops to 48%.

Trump himself reacted thin-skinned to this latest development: "Nobody can ever trust Fox News, and I'm one of them," he rants on Truth Social and adds 20 hours later: "Fox News polls are always bad for me. It's been that way from the beginning and it always will be."

Bad omen for Trump: switch to the independents

But the New Yorker doesn't need to be upset: The fact that Trump would have to trade his one-point lead for a two-point deficit is fully within the margin of error of such polls, Fox News itself writes. The way the Republican is so well served on social media, he probably didn't even read the passage in question.

According to the survey, Trump is ahead among men (15 points ahead), among the rural population (17 points), among whites without a school-leaving certificate (30 points) and white evangelical Christians (46 points). According to the survey, Biden is particularly convincing among voters over 65 (15 points), women (17 points), urban voters (23 points) and white women with a college degree (28 points).

What is likely to be decisive for the presidential election in November is the vote of independents who do not register as either Republicans or Democrats: In this group, Trump was still two points ahead in May. Now, however, Biden has a lead of nine points: Trump's recent court cases appear to be having a negative impact on this segment of voters in particular.
