The current Vice-President of the Cantonal Council received 98 votes at the parliamentary session on Wednesday. His election was unanimous. Following his election to the highest office in the canton of Schwyz for the 2024-2025 term of office, he appealed to his fellow councillors to treat each other with respect.
It is not only important to talk, but also to listen to and tolerate other opinions. In addition to good, objective discussions and short and clear speeches, he also expects punctuality, said the new Cantonal Council President.
Helbling has been a member of the cantonal council for 20 years and is a board member of the cantonal SVP. The agricultural machinery mechanic and industrial engineer works as Managing Director of Helbling Landtechnik AG in Steinerberg. He is married and the father of four children. Helbling is the first time that the municipality of Steinerberg has had a cantonal council president.
On the first day of the June session, the Cantonal Council was constituted in its new composition for the 2024-2028 legislative period. The SVP is the strongest parliamentary group with 38 seats, having gained 5 seats in the elections last March. The Center Party has 23 seats, the FDP 19 and the SP/Greens group 15, followed by the Green Liberals with 5 seats.
