A bear has attacked and fatally injured a woman in a village near the Russian metropolis of St. Petersburg. Police shot the animal in the village of Pargolovo, according to the St. Petersburg Investigative Committee. The woman, who specialized in professional animal training, had trained wild animals on her property, according to the investigators. It was initially unclear how the accident occurred.
Local media had previously reported on the attack and first published a picture of the woman's body and then a bear that had been killed. Shots could be heard on a video. According to investigators, a second bear was in a cage, posing no danger to the public. In Russia, bears are still used as an attraction in circus performances, for example.
