Accident in Basel Child run over by truck - dead

A child was run over by a truck in Basel on Friday. It died on the spot.

Shortly after 12 noon on Friday, a traffic accident occurred at the junction of Elsässerstrasse and Hüningerstrasse. A child was hit by a truck in the pedestrian lane. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

According to the information available to the traffic police so far, the child was crossing Hüningerstrasse in the pedestrian lane. It was hit and run over by a truck, as the cantonal police reported in a press release.

The accident is still being investigated. As a result, Elsässerstrasse and Hüningerstrasse are still closed to motorized private and streetcar traffic. Streetcar traffic had to be diverted.
