Switzerland should not join the UN migration pact. In the opinion of the responsible Council of States committee, it would have no concrete advantages from ratification. The risks of legal repercussions would outweigh the benefits.

The majority of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of States (FAC-S) is against joining the migration pact, as the parliamentary services announced on Friday. Switzerland's migration policy interests would be better served if it abstained from voting on the pact as before.

However, the majority is of the opinion that Switzerland should cooperate internationally on migration within the framework of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

A first minority of the APK-S rejects accession to the UN migration pact without reservation. A second minority is of the opinion that Switzerland should join. It should join the efforts of the international community to develop a common approach to managing international migration.
