Anders Stokholm is stepping down from the Canton of Thurgau's Grand Council at the end of September. He is also relinquishing his position as head of the FDP parliamentary group. The Frauenfeld mayor and cantonal parliamentarian made the announcement on Saturday at the general meeting of the Thurgau Free Democrats in Aadorf TG.

According to a statement from his party, the reason for his departure is that Stokholm was recently elected as the new President of the Swiss Society for the Common Good (SGG). Stokholm now wants to concentrate on municipal and national tasks. He also chairs the Swiss Association of Cities.

Stokholm has been a member of the Thurgau Cantonal Council since 2016, having previously been elected to the cantonal parliament in 2004.
