The draft federal budget for 2025 is ready. It only complies with the debt brake thanks to billions in relief measures, higher estimated revenue and the extraordinary recognition of status S expenditure. The room for maneuver remains small.

On Wednesday, the Federal Council approved the figures for the 2025 budget and the 2026 to 2028 financial plan, as announced. In the ordinary budget, it expects revenue of CHF 85.3 billion and expenditure of CHF 85.7 billion. This deficit of CHF 400 million is in line with the debt brake due to the economic situation. From today's perspective, however, the cushion is only CHF 100 million.

The calculation currently only works out because the Federal Council decided on measures at the beginning of the year that will relieve the ordinary budget by over CHF 2 billion in 2025. In addition, the federal government is currently assuming higher income and profit tax revenues.
