As a result, rocky slopes had slipped and several people had died. The residents did not give a number. Many victims are still under the rubble. The masses of water had made roads impassable and washed away cars.
Al-Mahuit, like the capital Sanaa to the east, is controlled by the Huthi militia. They overran large parts of northern Yemen ten years ago.
The mouse-poor country has been experiencing heavy rainfall for weeks, affecting more than 340,000 people in several provinces according to the Yemeni Red Crescent. The storms have exacerbated the supply situation in the country, which is already facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. According to UN figures from two weeks ago, at least 60 people have died in the floods.
Heavy rainfall and flooding occur every year in Yemen. People die again and again.
