The G20 finance ministers have agreed to cooperate on the taxation of the super-rich. However, they did not agree on a joint global approach to tax policy.

"While fully respecting fiscal sovereignty, we will try to work together to ensure that very wealthy individuals are effectively taxed", was the message in the final declaration of the meeting of finance ministers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Friday.

Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said after the meeting that the G20 had agreed to "work towards fairer, more transparent and more equitable tax systems". These must contribute to "fairer and more sustainable societies", he said at a press conference. Brazil currently holds the presidency of the G20.
