After 100 days in office, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer gives a mixed assessment. There have been bumpy days, the leader of the Social Democratic Labor Party admitted in a BBC interview.

Starmer and other cabinet members have come under fire in recent weeks for expensive gifts, among other things. The Prime Minister had accepted clothes, glasses and tickets for concerts, football matches and other events worth tens of thousands of pounds. He has already paid back several thousand pounds.

Further trouble was caused when Starmer's Chief of Staff Sue Gray had to resign after just a few months due to squabbles in Downing Street, the seat of government.

The new British prime minister's honeymoon is over

The Prime Minister's popularity ratings have plummeted since his party's overwhelming election victory on July 4. According to a recent survey by the opinion research institute Yougov, almost two thirds (63%) of people in the UK now have a negative opinion of the head of government. Only 27 percent see him in a good light. The honeymoon is over, according to political experts.

Starmer emphasized that despite the headwinds of recent weeks, including the far-right riots in the summer, his government had made good progress with its legislative plans. "It's important to remind ourselves that a lot of changes have already been made, and that's in line with the timetable I set myself," said Starmer. His main goals are to boost the economy, reform the health service and alleviate the housing shortage.
