Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is presenting her book "Freiheit. Memories 1954 - 2021' in Berlin at the end of November. The former head of government will present her memoirs at the Deutsches Theater on 26 November, the day the book is published.

The event is open to the public and will be hosted by journalist Anne Will. Advance ticket sales start on October 10 at 11 am.

Merkel wrote her memoirs together with her long-time office manager Beate Baumann. The book is around 700 pages long and, according to the publisher Kiepenheuer & Witsch, will be published in over 30 countries worldwide.

Merkel, now 70 years old, was German Chancellor from 2005 to 2021. She did not stand again in the 2021 federal elections. Born in Hamburg, she grew up in the GDR, studied physics and became politically active during the period of political upheaval in the East. She was elected to the Bundestag in 1990. She was Minister for Women and later Minister for the Environment. From 2000 to 2018, she was leader of the German Christian Democrats.
