According to a report by the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), they have taken control of most of the village of Novohrodivka, southeast of Pokrovsk, within a few days.
According to ISW, the Russian army is now concentrating on fighting its way along a railroad line towards Pokrovsk. According to the experts, the comparatively rapid Russian advance in Novohrodivka in the Donetsk region was probably possible due to a Ukrainian retreat from the area.
Zelenskyi decides to reinforce the region
In view of the Russian advance on Pokrovsk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had decided to reinforce the region at a meeting with the military leadership. Russian troops had recently repeatedly announced the capture of entire villages in the Donetsk region.
The Ukrainian authorities have also ordered further evacuations. The zone for forced evacuations has been expanded due to the deteriorating security situation. Children and their parents or guardians had to leave their homes, the governor of Donetsk had announced. A total of 27 villages in the Kostyantynivka and Selydove areas were listed. An evacuation of villages in the Pokrovsk region had previously been ordered due to the advance of Russian troops.
