Lebanese Hezbollah has claimed to have attacked a military base in northern Israel. In a statement, the militia spoke of a "combat drone squadron" whose target was the Michve Alon base. Israeli officers and soldiers had been hit and there had also been casualties, the militia added without providing further details. The attack was in retaliation to an Israeli strike near Sidon in southern Lebanon, in which a member of the Islamist Hams was killed on Friday. Hezbollah had also attacked Israeli soldiers in the border region.

Israel's army announced that several drones had flown over Israeli territory from Lebanon. The missile defense intercepted one of them and other drones fell. There were no injuries or damage. In addition, the Israeli military had attacked rocket launchers, a drone intended for launch and several Hezbollah weapons depots in southern Lebanon.

A possible major attack on Israel by Iran-backed Hezbollah has been expected for days. Its Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah has vowed revenge after Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr was deliberately killed in an Israeli attack. This attack in the area of the Lebanese capital Beirut took place almost two weeks ago. There is also speculation as to whether Hezbollah could launch an even larger, coordinated attack with Iran against their common arch-enemy Israel.
