Iran has flown its ambassador, who was injured in a pager explosion, out of Lebanon.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited the head of the diplomatic mission, Modschtaba Amani, in a hospital in the Iranian capital Tehran on Thursday. There, Araghchi also asked the doctors treating him about his state of health. In the past few days, state media had initially only reported that Amani had suffered a "minor injury".

Iran had flown out a total of 95 patients on Wednesday. Most of the wounded had suffered injuries to their hands and eyes. The influential Shia militia Hezbollah, which was the target of the explosions, is Tehran's most important non-state ally.

According to official figures, more than 3,250 people were injured and 32 killed in the explosions of so-called pagers and walkie-talkies on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, sees Israel as the mastermind behind the explosions.
