According to the Israeli army, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia is said to have fired around 320 missiles at Israel on Yom Kippur, the highest Jewish holiday. Most of the rockets and drones were intercepted by Israeli air defenses, while others fell over open ground, it was reported. Near the northern city of Acre, two Israelis suffered minor injuries from projectile fragments, Israeli media reported. In the seaside resort of Herzlia near Tel Aviv, a drone that overcame air defenses caused damage to buildings.

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) began on Friday evening at sunset. Believers fast during this time and hope to be forgiven for their sins. Television and radio stations interrupt their broadcasts. Stores, cinemas, bars and restaurants remain closed.

Israel's army has significantly stepped up its fight against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia since September. This includes massive air strikes and a ground offensive in Lebanon. Hezbollah, for its part, has expanded its attacks. While it had previously only fired on areas close to the border in northern Israel, its missiles and drones are now also targeting the port city of Haifa and the greater Tel Aviv area.
