While people in Israel are celebrating the highest Jewish holiday, Yom Kippur, there have been new attacks from Lebanon. According to the Israeli army, rocket alarms were triggered in the coastal city of Haifa, among other places. This was due to two drones launched from the neighboring country. These were intercepted.

The sirens also sounded again elsewhere in northern Israel. According to the Israeli military, a total of around 40 projectiles from the neighboring country had been registered since the morning. There were initially no reports of casualties or damage. Hezbollah in Lebanon claimed responsibility for several attacks.

People in Israel have been celebrating Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) since Friday evening. Believers fast and hope for forgiveness of their sins. Television and radio stations interrupt their broadcasts. Stores, cinemas, bars and restaurants remain closed.

Apart from police cars and emergency services, there are no cars on the highest Jewish holiday. As a result, there are many people on bicycles, e-scooters and on foot on roads and even highways throughout the country, including many groups of children.

Israel's army has significantly stepped up its fight against the Shiite Hezbollah militia since September, including massive airstrikes and a ground offensive in Lebanon.
