According to its own statements, the Israeli military has advanced further south and west of the city of Gaza.

On Monday night, it reached the headquarters of the UN refugee relief organization UNRWA. This is not in operation due to the war. The armed forces had launched anti-terror operations in the area, the army announced. The army had asked civilians to leave the area before the operation began.

Army radio reported fighting with gunmen from the Islamist Hamas. No casualties were initially reported. The Israeli military had already taken action in the metropolis in the northern section of the sealed-off coastal area several times during the Gaza war. Residents of the affected neighborhoods were nevertheless shocked by the night-time advance. According to a dpa correspondent, they spoke of a "night of terror".

In southern Lebanon, the Israeli military killed a fighter from the Shiite militia Hezbollah with a targeted airstrike. The man was hit by a drone as he was riding a motorcycle in the Tyros district, Hezbollah announced.

The Israeli army confirmed the targeted killing. The person attacked was a cadre of the Hezbollah rocket unit, who is said to have been involved in numerous attacks on Israel.

The war was triggered by the unprecedented massacre carried out by terrorists from Hamas and other extremist Palestinian organizations in southern Israel on 7 October last year. Since then, Hezbollah has been firing rockets and other projectiles into northern Israel - "in solidarity" with Hamas, as it claims.
