Israel's army says it has killed around 20 members of the Islamist Hamas in an attack in the Gaza Strip.

They belonged to the terrorist group's battalion in the Al-Shati refugee district, the military announced. Among those killed were terrorists who had been involved in the massacre in Israel on October 7. According to the information, soldiers also killed a sniper who is said to have shot an Israeli soldier last week.

Israel's army also announced that it had killed the commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) navy in a further attack. He was reportedly hit in the city of Gaza. The military's claims could not initially be independently verified.

Fighting also in Rafah

According to the information, the Israeli operation in the city of Rafah in the south of the coastal area is also continuing. "Several terrorists were eliminated," the military said. Residents confirmed Israeli attacks on targets in the town near the border with Egypt.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, at least 54 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours.

In total, at least 38,848 people have been killed and a further 89,459 injured since the start of the war. These figures, which do not distinguish between civilians and fighters, cannot be independently verified at present.
