Wissam Chasim was traveling in a vehicle in the area, according to a statement by the army, the domestic intelligence service Shin Bet and the Israeli police. He had planned and carried out attacks.

There were also two other Hamas members in the car. The forces reportedly killed them in an attack with an aircraft as they attempted to flee from the vehicle. Weapons and explosives were found in the car.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israel's army had attacked a car with three occupants in a village in southern Jenin. Two had tried to escape. A drone had fired a missile at both of them. All three were reportedly killed in the attack.

Israel began the large-scale military operation in several locations on Wednesday night. An Israeli army spokesman justified the action with the significant increase in the number of attacks on Israelis. At the same time, violence by extremist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank has also increased.

The situation in the West Bank has worsened significantly since the start of the Gaza war following the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. Since then, 640 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, confrontations or their own attacks in the West Bank, according to the Ministry of Health.
