While the mutual shelling between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon continues, Israel's military said it had also attacked in Syria during the night. According to the army, an important Hamas member was killed in the airstrike. Ahmad Mohammed Fahd was responsible for firing rockets at the Golan Heights annexed by Israel. According to the Israeli army, he was a leader of Hamas in southern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the UK, confirmed his death. Fahd's wife was also killed in an Israeli drone attack in the south-west of Damascus. Several family members were injured. Human rights activists were initially unable to confirm whether he was a member of Hamas.
