The Israeli army says it has killed more than 45 fighters from the Lebanese Hezbollah militia within 24 hours.

Among them was the commander of a battalion in Bint Jubail in the south of Lebanon, the military announced. He was behind attacks on Israel from villages in southern Lebanon.

In addition, the army "attacked 150 terrorist targets" in Lebanon, according to the statement. These are said to be weapons depots, rocket launching pads and infrastructure. The information could not initially be independently verified.

The current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began on October 8 last year with rocket attacks by the Lebanese militia in support of Hamas, which triggered the Gaza War with the terrorist attack on Israel the day before. Since then, Hezbollah and Israel's military have been engaged in heavy shelling with hundreds dead, thousands injured and hundreds of thousands displaced, most of them in Lebanon.
