The Israeli security forces say they have arrested eight Palestinians in connection with a failed attack attempt in Tel Aviv in August. They are members of the Islamist Hamas from the area around the city of Nablus in the West Bank, the police said on X. They were supposed to have carried out attacks in Israel on behalf of a Hamas leadership unit in Turkey.

The man carrying the explosive device in his backpack was killed in what was probably a premature explosion on August 18 in the south of the coastal metropolis. According to the police, he was also a Hamas member. A passer-by was slightly injured in the detonation near a synagogue.

One of those arrested had traveled to Turkey several times to collect money for explosives from Hamas people there and to be trained in the construction of explosive devices, the police added. The military wings of the Palestinian terrorist organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad had claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.
