The incident ended without serious consequences and the drone was shot down south of Moscow near the small town of Stupino, the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, announced on his Telegram channel.
Moscow, which is almost 700 kilometers from the border, is rarely targeted by Ukrainian drones. Sobyanin last reported an attempted attack a month ago. There were mainly strikes last summer, when the Moscow City business center was hit, among others. Since then, the air defenses around Moscow have been massively reinforced.
Other cities also under attack
According to Sobyanin, there was no damage in the latest attack - in contrast to other Russian regions, which also came under fire. Once again, the Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine was the worst affected. According to the authorities, a man was killed in a village when a car was hit by a drone.
In the border town of Shebekino, seven other people were injured by shelling, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Most of the victims suffered shrapnel injuries.
Ukraine repeatedly sends combat drones into Russia
Ukraine repeatedly hits objects that are important for Russian warfare, such as fuel depots or military airfields. For example, the fuel depot in the Volgograd region that was attacked two days ago will have to cease operations for around three months. However, the Russian military regularly claims to have shot down all drones, while at the same time important facilities are going up in flames. Even the Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov recently got upset about the false reports of success.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for two years. Because it lacks heavy long-range weapons, it is trying to make up for this lack with targeted drone attacks. However, the damage caused and the number of victims are disproportionate to the devastating consequences of Russian bombardments on Ukraine. A missile attack on Monday killed more than 30 people in the capital Kiev alone.
