Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked US President Joe Biden for his support for Israel during a meeting at the White House. "I want to thank you for 50 years of public service and 50 years of support for the State of Israel," Netanyahu said. He added that he was looking forward to discussing the "big issues" with Biden. Biden said, "We have a lot to talk about." The two did not answer any questions from the press present.

A meeting between the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Netanyahu is also planned for today. On Friday, former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump plans to receive Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Netanyahu's visit to the USA for a speech in the US Congress on Wednesday coincides with the political turmoil in the United States following Biden's withdrawal from the election campaign.

The relationship between the US president and Israel's head of government has been tense for some time - the mood has deteriorated further due to the actions of the Israeli leadership under Netanyahu in the Gaza war.
