The Israeli Prime Minister's Office has denied a report that Benjamin Netanyahu has given the green light for a ceasefire with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia. "The report about a ceasefire is false," the statement said. "It is a US-French proposal to which the Prime Minister has not even responded."

The Israeli TV channel N12 had reported, citing an unnamed Netanyahu employee, that a ceasefire would enable negotiations on a permanent agreement.

A report by the broadcaster that Netanyahu had ordered the army to reduce attacks in the northern neighboring country was also "the opposite of the truth," the office also stated. "The prime minister has instructed the army to continue the battle with full force."

Following massive Israeli bombardments in Lebanon with more than 600 dead, a group of states led by the USA and Germany, together with important Arab countries, is calling for a 21-day pause in fighting.
