The death toll following an Israeli attack on a building in a suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut has risen to five, according to the Lebanese health ministry. Three women and two children were reportedly killed, according to the ministry. It was previously reported that more than 70 people were also injured. Some of them are said to have been seriously injured.

According to the Israeli army, the attack targeted a high-ranking Hezbollah commander. A spokesman for the Israeli military announced that he had been killed. Hezbollah itself has not yet confirmed his death.

The target is Fuad Shukr, who is considered a close advisor to Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. According to Israeli sources, he was responsible for the rocket attack on the Druze village of Majdal Shams on the Golan Heights annexed by Israel four days ago, which left twelve dead. Independent verification of this information is currently not possible. The Shiite militia denied involvement in the attack.
