Israeli opposition leader Jair Lapid has spoken out in favor of a peace solution in the Gaza war. "Ending the war is in Israel's interest", Lapid wrote on Platform X. He called for an agreement with Hamas that also provides for the release of the hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip.

Israel's opposition leader also called for a change of leadership. "As long as this government exists, the war will continue." It does not want peace, Lapid criticized. Israel's far-right police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had previously announced that he was working on ending the indirect negotiations with Hamas on a ceasefire in the Gaza war. The country should not negotiate with murderers, he demanded.
At the weekend, the army announced the discovery of six Israeli hostages. According to media reports, the Israeli Ministry of Health announced that the hostages had been shot at close range around 48 to 72 hours before the autopsy.
Hundreds of thousands then demanded a deal to secure the release of the remaining abductees in the Gaza Strip. Further demonstrations were planned for Wednesday. Relatives of the hostages accuse the government of sabotaging an agreement.
