According to Palestinian reports, a 13-year-old boy has been killed by shots fired by the Israeli military in a village in the West Bank. The Palestinian boy was wounded in the stomach by a bullet and later pronounced dead in hospital, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. The information could not initially be independently verified.

Israel's army said that militants had thrown stones at Israeli vehicles near a village northwest of the city of Ramallah. Israeli forces had fired at them. One person had been hit. This account could not initially be independently verified either.

The Ministry of Health in the West Bank confirmed the death of the boy. Local residents reported that it was children who had thrown stones onto a road used by settlers. Soldiers then opened fire on them.

The situation in the West Bank has worsened significantly since the start of the Gaza war following the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023. Since then, 550 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, confrontations or their own attacks in the West Bank, according to the Ministry of Health. Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians also increased again during this period.

According to an Israeli media report, the outgoing head of the Israeli army's Central Command responsible for the West Bank, Yehuda Fuchs, also complained about this on Monday. In recent months, Palestinian civilians who posed no threat had been terrorized by settlers. According to a report in Haaretz, Fuchs said that politics and the religious leadership were doing nothing to counter this. The well-being of Palestinian civilians is not only a moral value, but also serves Israel's security interests.
