According to media reports, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban wants to meet former President Donald Trump after the NATO summit. The Hungarian Prime Minister wants to travel to the Republican in Florida on Thursday, the New York Times reported, citing an unnamed person from Trump's campaign team. The British newspaper "Guardian" reported, citing a source close to Orban, that the meeting would take place at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

There was initially no official confirmation of the meeting. Orban's Chancellery Minister Gergely Gulyas neither confirmed nor denied rumors about the travel plans at a press conference on Monday.

Trump wants to return to the White House for the Republicans after the US election in November. The election campaign is in the midst of a heated phase. Orban and Trump had already met in March. After the talks back then, Orban described his host as the "president of peace", while the American praised the Hungarian as the "best leader" ever. When asked about this at the NATO summit, Chancellor Scholz (SPD) said that he did not comment on the travel plans of heads of government from other countries. The Hungarian Prime Minister was acting as such and not as part of the Hungarian EU Council Presidency. Orban had already made headlines in the days leading up to the summit. As part of a tour of states staged as a "peace mission", the head of government of the NATO country visited China, Russia and Ukraine.
