Over 300 ships with more than 20,000 sailors are involved, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced. Up to 50 aircraft and helicopters will also be deployed during the maneuver, which will last several days. Pictures showed, among other things, firing exercises in defense against sea drones.
The Black Sea Fleet deployed in the fight against Ukraine is excluded from the exercises. Since the Russian invasion of the neighboring country in February 2022, this fleet has suffered considerable losses from Ukrainian missiles and naval drones and has had to withdraw for the most part from its main base in the port city of Sevastopol on the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.
