According to the video, there was a fire in the turbine room of the hydroelectric power plant and the road on the dam wall was damaged. "It makes no sense to keep this quiet," wrote the news agency. Following the airstrike, the military administration of the Kiev region only officially confirmed damage to two unspecified energy infrastructure facilities.
At the same time, Ukrainian authorities attempted to allay fears that the dam wall could be destroyed. "There is no threat to the dam of the Kiev hydroelectric power plant. It is impossible to destroy it with missiles," wrote Andryi Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation, on Telegram.
The situation cannot be compared to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine in 2023. This had been blown up from the inside. Dozens of people drowned in the flood wave. The water caused severe damage.
The Dnipro reservoir north of the Ukrainian capital, known as the Kiev Sea, has a surface area of around 920 square kilometers and holds 3.7 billion cubic meters of water. Attacks in the spring damaged the power plants of the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhya barrages, among others.
