A white van overturned in the overtaking lane on the Italian A14 highway near Bitritto, on the outskirts of Bari, on Wednesday. According to "Corriere del Mezzogiorno ", seven tourists from Switzerland, presumably most of them family members, were in the car involved in the accident. A 44-year-old mother died in the accident.
The three children of the victim - a 15-year-old teenager, a 13-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl - were only slightly injured. Their condition and that of their 59-year-old father were not serious. They are being treated at the Bari polyclinic.
However, a 30-year-old man and a 17-year-old teenage girl were seriously injured. They are in a critical condition. The man was taken to the Miulli Hospital in Acquaviva delle Fonti as an emergency. The 17-year-old girl is being treated at the Di Venere Hospital in Bari.
It is not yet known exactly how the accident occurred. The highway had to be closed and traffic diverted for the duration of the accident.
