At 10.5 percent, Ticino has recorded the highest increase of all cantons in average premiums across all age groups. The head of health in Ticino, Raffaele De Rosa, is concerned and speaks of a "very hard blow" for the population.

The highest increase in premiums in Switzerland will place a heavy burden on the people of Ticino, De Rosa told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday.

In Ticino, costs have risen in various areas, including physiotherapy and Spitex services.

With health insurance premiums rising again, De Rosa also fears a further increase in the number of people who need a health insurance reduction. De Rosa noted that just under one in three people in Ticino currently receive a premium reduction, with a total of 110,000 people.

Stop to expansion of Spitex services

Almost ten days ago, the Ticino cantonal parliament became the first canton to approve a restriction on the admission of Spitex organizations. The background to this measure is an amendment to the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG). The new Article 55b, which came into force on 1 July, allows the cantons to introduce a moratorium on the granting of new operating licenses to Spitex organizations.
