The blue helmet soldier was hit by shots at the headquarters in Nakura in the border area with Israel due to "ongoing military operations in the vicinity". A bullet was removed from the soldier in hospital and his condition is stable, according to Unifil.
The injured man is not one of the three Swiss blue berets currently stationed in Lebanon, as Daniel Seckler from the Swiss Armed Forces Competence Center for Operations Abroad Swissint told the Keystone-SDA news agency. They are all in good health.
In another incident, a building at a UN post in Ramja, further east of Nakura, was severely damaged. Explosions had occurred there during night-time shelling.
The injured man in Nakura is reportedly the fifth casualty in the ranks of the UN observer mission Unifil in Lebanon within a few days. Unifil blamed the Israeli army for the first shelling on Thursday. The latter, on the other hand, accused the Hezbollah militia of abusing areas near UN bases for its own purposes.
