According to US reports, Israel's military has recovered the bodies of six hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Among them was the American-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, US President Joe Biden announced in an early morning statement. Shortly beforehand, the Israeli Foreign Ministry had published a statement from the relatives in which they announced the death of "their beloved son and brother". Israel's army had previously announced that it had found several bodies during an operation in the Gaza Strip.

"At this time, troops are still deployed in the area and are conducting a procedure to recover and identify the bodies, which will take several hours," the military had announced on social media the previous evening. It was initially unclear whether the bodies were those of Israeli hostages. The news sparked protests in Israel. The army did not provide any further details early in the morning.
