US President Joe Biden has tested positive for the coronavirus. He has been vaccinated and has mild symptoms, the White House announced.

The 81-year-old, who is in the middle of his election campaign, reportedly tested positive after an event in Las Vegas. He will now retire to his private home in Rehoboth in the state of Delaware and isolate himself there. However, he will be able to carry out all his duties from there. Biden presented with respiratory symptoms, a runny nose and a cough, his doctor said. The test result has yet to be confirmed by a PCR test. The president had received his first dose of the Covid drug Paxlovid.

Biden already tested positive two years ago

Biden last tested positive for the virus two years ago in the summer. He was also treated with the drug Paxlovid back then and tested positive for the coronavirus again just a few days after the end of his coronavirus isolation. This was a "relapse", which occurs in rare cases in patients who have been treated with Paxlovid, it was said at the time. According to the White House, Biden had a mild course at the time.

Biden belongs to the risk group due to his advanced age. Biden's state of health is the subject of repeated discussion, particularly in view of the presidential election in November. Biden wants to be confirmed in office after the election in November. However, the Democrat is currently fighting on all fronts to save his presidential candidacy.
