In view of the escalating situation in the Middle East, the USA is deploying additional warships and combat aircraft to the Middle East.

This was ordered by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, as announced by the Pentagon. The aim is to improve the protection of its own armed forces in the region, increase support for the defense of Israel and ensure that the USA is prepared for various eventualities, it said. Following the targeted killing of the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, in Tehran, Iran has threatened Israel with massive retaliation.

It is feared that the incident could bring Israel and Iran to the brink of a military conflict. Against this backdrop, the USA, as Israel's most important ally, is deploying additional destroyers with ballistic missile defense capabilities and another fighter squadron to the region, as the Pentagon also announced. Steps are also being taken to "increase readiness to deploy additional land-based ballistic missile defenses", according to the Pentagon statement.
