At the heart of the cantonal votes this Sunday is the decision on the transfer of the town of Moutier from Bern to the Jura. A total of 18 proposals will be put to the vote in 13 cantons.

The cantons of Bern and Jura will decide on the concordat on Moutier's change of canton. In March 2021, Moutier itself voted in favor of the change to the canton of Jura by 2114 votes to 1740. The change of canton is to be completed at the beginning of 2026. The necessary vote in the federal parliament is considered a formality.

In the canton of Zurich, the five-year waiting period for temporarily admitted persons before they can apply for grants from the canton is under discussion. In the canton of Geneva, a decision is being made on the duration of primary school teacher training. In future, the training of primary school teachers is to last three years, as in all other cantons. Until now, the canton was a special case in Switzerland with a training period of four years.

Second attempt for transparency initiative

For the second time, a vote will be held in the canton of Zug on a transparency initiative by the Young Alternative. In a counter-proposal, the government and cantonal council are proposing to regulate the details of the transparency provisions in a law rather than at constitutional level. The vote on the same proposal on June 9 was declared invalid due to problems with the count.

In the canton of Nidwalden, the municipalities are to be given more organizational freedom thanks to a constitutional amendment. At the same time, the way is to be paved for electronic voting.

Equity tax under scrutiny

In the canton of Lucerne, tax relief is to be provided for companies and people with low incomes. The equity tax for companies is to be effectively abolished. The high tax losses of CHF 56 million for the canton from 2028 and CHF 67 million for the municipalities are controversial.

In future, the government in the canton of Solothurn should be able to elect the state secretary itself and no longer the parliament. In addition, the cantonal buildings insurance company should be able to issue new regulations under the control of parliament.

In the canton of Graubünden, the population will vote on a new building for a civil protection training center in Churwalden that will cost almost CHF 19 million.
