On Saturday, the FDP Canton of Zurich discussed a new party program entitled "Seizing opportunities - for freedom and progress". Among other things, the draft envisaged a restriction on immigration - including from the EU.

The party platform, which the Zurich FDP sent out internally two weeks ago, caused discussion in the local parties. Before the party conference, 67 applications were submitted to the Executive Board. After clearing up duplicate issues, 27 motions were discussed on Saturday.

Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter spoke of a "historic party conference", laying the "groundwork for the event" with a short speech. Among other things, she referred to the federal deficits and the ongoing review of tasks and subsidies.

"We Liberals do not want a weak state, but a strong one," stated the head of the Federal Department of Finance. Only a strong state that can fulfill its tasks is social and can set priorities that are necessary for the future.
