Following an attack attributed to Israel on a tent camp with internally displaced persons in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army says it is continuing to investigate the incident. According to an initial investigation, there was no direct attack on a Red Cross facility, the military announced on Saturday evening. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had previously announced on Platform X that the organization's office had been damaged by shelling on Friday afternoon.

The building was surrounded by hundreds of displaced civilians living in tents, including ICRC staff. "Firing so dangerously close to humanitarian facilities puts the lives of civilians and humanitarian workers at risk," the organization continued. According to the information, the warring parties are aware of where humanitarian facilities are located. Large-caliber shells landed only a few meters away from the office during the incident. The ICRC did not say who was responsible for the shelling.

The army is making considerable efforts to prevent damage to workers and facilities of international organizations in the Gaza Strip, the military said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the health authority controlled by the Islamist Hamas, at least 24 people were killed and 47 others injured in the incident in Al-Mawasi near Rafah. Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli tank shells hit the tent camp by complete surprise. The information cannot currently be independently verified.
