The cantonal finance directors consider the Juso initiative on inheritance tax for the super-rich in favor of the climate to be "poison for Switzerland as a business location". Their president Ernst Stocker said this to the media on Friday.

The initiative was already causing a great deal of uncertainty long before the vote, said Zurich SVP Finance Director Stocker. He presides over the Conference of Finance Directors (FDK). "We are concerned about this uncertainty." The FDK wants stability, security and a regulated situation. A lot of good things are financed with the tax base in the cantons - particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.

The popular initiative "For a social climate policy - fairly financed through taxation (Initiative for a future)" calls for a tax rate of 50 percent on estates and gifts of more than CHF 50 million. The proceeds are to be used for the ecological restructuring of the economy.
