KVA Buchs has never received as much waste as in the past financial year. The members of the KVA association municipalities also said yes to a loan for the expansion of the hot water supply, as the company announced on Thursday.

This will enable the hot water center at KVA Buchs to be expanded for 2.2 million Swiss francs. This has been supplying households and industry in the surrounding municipalities of the Aarau region with heat since 2021. Because more and more customers are using district heating, the expansion has been on the cards for some time.
Partner companies also built new heat transfer stations in Wynenfeld in Buchs/Suhr and at Aarau Cantonal Hospital. These work with hot water instead of steam as before.
The expansion of the hot water network also includes the expansion of the thermal storage facilities. This will also enable electricity production to be optimized, writes KVA. "Whenever the demand for electricity and therefore the electricity tariff is high during the course of the day, we should produce as much electricity as possible," Plant Manager Rolf Schumacher is quoted as saying in a press release.
Renewed increase after record year
After the record of 138,538 tons of waste delivered in 2023, 4.6% more waste was delivered from January to May than in the same months of the previous year. District heating production is set to increase to over 200 gigawatt hours by 2040, more than double the current level.
