The Lindenhof Group closed the past year with a loss of around 7.1 million Swiss francs. The hospital cites the consequences of the shortage of specialists, increased energy prices, inflation and underfunding in the outpatient and compulsory sectors as the reasons for this.

In the first half of the year, the company had to employ temporary staff with correspondingly high costs, according to a press release issued on Thursday. Personnel expenses rose by 2.5 percent and amounted to just under 187 million francs.

In addition, the cost of pharmaceuticals increased by an excessive 9.7 percent. According to the press release, other operating expenses also continued to rise due to inflation.

In turn, turnover increased by around 4.5 percent to 452 million francs, as the press release explains further. The development in the inpatient area in particular contributed to this, where the hospital was able to treat around 4.9 percent more patients than in the previous year.

The Lindenhof Group is one of the leading private listed hospitals in Switzerland. The three associated hospitals Engeried, Lindenhof and Sonnenhof in Bern treat over 153,000 patients a year, of which around 28,500 are inpatients. The group employs around 2500 staff.
