Easyjet presents quarterly figures - and exceeds expectations. Company boss Lundgren is also hoping for a record summer.

The British low-cost airline Easyjet is benefiting from an increased desire to travel. In the third quarter to the end of June, pre-tax profits adjusted for special effects rose by 16 percent year-on-year to 236 million British pounds (280 million euros), as the rival to Europe's largest low-cost airline Ryanair announced in Luton near London. The Group thus clearly exceeded the expectations of industry experts.

"This result was achieved even though Easter fell in March this year," said CEO Johan Lundgren. The company is well on the way to achieving another record summer. This would bring the medium-term targets one step closer.

In the months from April to June, Easyjet counted a good 25.3 million passengers, 8 percent more than a year earlier. Aircraft utilization increased slightly from 89.6 percent in the previous year to 90.0 percent. While turnover rose by 11 percent to 2.6 billion pounds, fuel costs grew less strongly by seven percent to 625 million pounds.
