Because oil ignited in the production plant of a plastics manufacturer in Lenzburg AG, a major fire with heavy smoke development occurred on Thursday morning. The fire department extinguished the fire in the morning, according to the Aargau cantonal police. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.

No one was injured, said police spokesman Pascal Wenzel at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. Around 50 people were evacuated from the industrial plant. According to initial estimates, the damage to property is expected to be at least in the six-figure range.

Due to the heavy smoke development, Alertswiss had issued a message calling on the population to close windows and doors and switch off ventilation and air conditioning systems. There were no explosions, said Wenzel.

A large contingent of the fire department was deployed, including the Brugg fire department, which supported the local fire department with a CO2 extinguisher and additional foam, as the police spokesman told regional broadcaster Tele M1.
